lear is being very unwise
oswald disrespected king, kent protects his honor
cordelia tells the truth and is rejected for it because she's not kissing ass
lear claims he hates cordelia, his favorite child, this lets the audience know there's something wrong

in elizabethan society, everyone should know their place
lear has an argument with albany and goneril, gets very frustrated


a new presenter enters:
act 2, scene 1: edmund wants to use cornwall against edgar
edgar should run away
edmund cuts own arm, claims edgar did it
oswald doesn't recognize kent, kent insults oswald
back and forth, cornwall and reagan send kent to stocks
edgar transforms himself into poor tom for disguise
lear, fool, knight get to gloucester's castle, see kent
reagan/cornwall refuse to talk because they're tired from travel
lear wants to stay with one of the sisters, but is shunned by both after not wanting to give up his men


act II scene I
line 47: no one pays attention to edmund even though he cut himself
gloucester hunting down edgar on p77
line 95: he will block escapes to make sure edgar doesn't leave

bottom of p83: kent beats the pants off of oswald verbally
