In Act I of King Lear, Lear reacts quite emotionally to all of his daughters' replies to his question about their love and fidelity. How do you feel about Lear's reaction to his daughters, especially about his reaction to Cordelia? I feel that Lear should have realized his daughters' intentions instead of taking their commentary at face value. He should have known his daughters' personalities and need not have asked the question, but his slipping mind clouded his thinking and prevented him from seeing the deeper meaning in his daughters' responses. This was especially unfair to Cordelia, who truly loved her father and responded as honestly as possible while her sisters lied and were rewarded for doing so.
