John Donne is renowned for his clever use of word play.  Discuss Donne's poetic style and offer your view on his poetry.  Do you like it?  Why or why not?

Donne's poetic style tends to combine two completely different ideas in a metaphysical conceit.  He often includes the pleasures of life, yet expresses deep emotions.  I admire Donne for his intelligence and his abilities as a lyrical wordsmith, but something about his style puts me off.  Comparing sex and loss of virginity to getting bitten by a flea feels a little on the creepy side to me.
