Discuss the poetry of Herrick, Marvell, and Jonson. How do their writings compare to those of Shakespeare and Donne? What do you like or dislike about thier poetry and why? Marvell and Jonson are both metaphysical poets. As such, they had similar styles and were masters of the metaphysical conceit. Herrick was not a metaphysical poet and seems to have a style similar to Donne. From my perspective, Shakespeare eclipses them all. This is most likely because his plays and various lines from them permeate society to a large extent. I find all these poets interesting on some level, but I am not so interested as to read their works without it being absolutely required of me. Like or dislike does not really come into play, though I did enjoy reading King Lear.
