statutes - legislatively passed laws as opposed to regulations
statutory law - body of law made by legislative bodies
house of reps requirements - 25yo, citizen for 7 years, resident of state (not district) they represent
incumbents (current office holders) tend to get reelected in the house
rep in house based on pop, with min of 1
[re]apportionment - process by which reps are distributed among states

senate terms: 6 years, 1/3 elected every 2 years
every state gets 2 senators regardless
redistricting - redrawing district lines to conform to population density so that districts have equal numbers of people
gerrymandering - drawing oddly shaped districts to be advantageous to a single candidate

single member districts - district that elects 1 person - winner take all system
